Bitcoin Options Launch on Nasdaq Boosts Trading

Nasdaq Advances with Cash-Settled Bitcoin Options for Risk Management

  • The U.S. SEC has granted Nasdaq PHLX conditional approval to list cash-settled bitcoin options under the ticker QBTC.
  • These options will track the CME CF Bitcoin Real Time Index (BRTT) and settle in U.S. dollars.
  • Each QBTC option contract represents exposure equivalent to exactly 1 BTC, using a $100 multiplier.
  • This new offering is designed to reduce operational friction for market participants compared to existing products that require separate derivatives accounts.
  • CME’s bitcoin options, available since 2020, are larger at a standard size of 5 BTC, complicating access for smaller traders.

The introduction of Nasdaq’s QBTC options aims to democratize access to cryptocurrency risk management tools, making it easier for both retail and institutional investors to engage in DeFi strategies without additional account requirements.

With each contract delivering precise exposure, this move could significantly enhance trading opportunities as the market continues evolving towards more sophisticated risk management solutions.(Source)
