Bitcoin Breach: Mt. Gox Creditors Report Hack

In the past 24 hours, Mt. Gox creditors reported multiple unauthorized login attempts on their accounts. This has sparked fears of a new Bitcoin hack targeting the already defunct exchange.

Posts on an insolvency subreddit revealed that hackers were trying to access accounts using brute-force methods. Despite these efforts, many users reported that two-factor authentication (2FA) likely thwarted the attacks.

Mt. Gox is currently distributing around $9 billion worth of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash to its creditors. This critical phase has heightened anxiety among users awaiting their payouts.

While some users could still log in, others faced access issues, raising suspicions of either a coordinated attack or a system glitch. The Mt. Gox claims website is currently down for maintenance, possibly as a precaution.

As of now, over 13,000 out of approximately 20,000 creditors have been repaid. The exchange still holds 47,228.73 BTC, valued at around $3.05 billion. The recent security breaches highlight the ongoing risks in the cryptocurrency space.

These events underscore the necessity of robust security measures like 2FA in safeguarding digital assets.
