Deribit, a crypto derivatives exchange, is introducing BTC and ETH options set to expire on November 8, 2024, ahead of the U.S. presidential election. Starting July 18, these options allow investors to speculate on the election’s impact on the crypto market.
This early rollout is a first for Deribit, designed to meet client demand for strategic positioning ahead of the November 5 election. Deribit announced the move on social media, emphasizing its goal to enable effective market strategies.
Deribit holds over $2 billion in open interest in its perpetual and futures markets. The exchange has accounted for 70% of the bitcoin options trading volume, highlighting its market influence.
The election options reflect a broader trend in “PoliFi” or political finance, allowing global participation in U.S. election-related betting. Investors are bullish on crypto, partly due to Donald Trump’s recent pro-crypto stance and his upcoming Bitcoin 2024 convention speech.
Political donations linked to crypto are also on the rise, with Ripple Labs contributing $1 million to support pro-crypto politicians. This strategic move underscores the growing intersection of politics and cryptocurrency, suggesting a potentially favorable regulatory environment in the future.
