Bitcoin miner Hut 8 has secured a 205MW power purchase agreement in West Texas, allowing it to upgrade its capacity to 1.3GW. The deal, announced on Tuesday, is adjacent to a wind farm and connected to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas grid, providing access to low-cost power.
This is the first time a large data center load has been approved under this market’s regulatory framework, marking a significant milestone for Hut 8. The expansion follows Hut 8’s recent $150 million strategic funding from Coatue, aimed at bolstering its AI infrastructure capabilities.
With this site, Hut 8 aims to maximize value by supporting high-density compute applications, including Bitcoin mining and AI. This strategic move positions Hut 8 for long-term growth and competitive advantage in the evolving tech landscape.
