Bitcoin Mining Impacts Texas Residents’ Health

Texas is rapidly becoming a Bitcoin mining hub, leading to health issues for local residents. They are experiencing hearing loss, headaches, dizziness, and sleep disturbances.

Texas is now home to 10 of the 34 major Bitcoin mines in the U.S., a shift that began when China cracked down on Bitcoin mining in 2021. Companies like Marathon Digital and Hut 8 moved to Texas due to its low energy costs and supportive regulatory environment.

Noise levels from Bitcoin miners have reached up to 91 decibels, comparable to a lawnmower, causing hearing damage over time. Some residents have been diagnosed with hearing loss.

This influx of miners has also led to issues like dizziness, vertigo, and fainting, especially among older residents. The conflict between economic interests and residents’ health underscores the need for comprehensive policy solutions.
