Bitcoin Hacker Swaps $1M Stolen Funds for ETH

Coldcard hacker begins swapping stolen Bitcoin for Ethereum

  • The hacker has moved approximately 10% of the stolen funds, totaling around $11.5 million.
  • 90% of the stolen funds remain untouched, amounting to about $103.2 million.
  • The exploit is linked to the theft of at least 1,789 Bitcoin from over 8,865 addresses.
  • The hacker is reportedly facing issues swapping all funds through THORChain, encountering refunds during transactions.
  • In August, related hackers sent 64 Bitcoin and 200 Ether to mixers like Tornado Cash.

This movement marks the first on-chain transfer from the original hacker addresses in any of the three waves of Coldcard wallet thefts. Authorities have been informed about the new Ethereum address associated with these transactions.

As of now, only a fraction of the stolen assets has been moved, with about $103.2 million still remaining in original accounts.(Source)
