Mercado Bitcoin said a security breach hit its systems on November 2, 2026, and that customers would not bear the losses. The Brazilian crypto exchange said no customer funds or data were lost, but it has not said how the attackers got in. Deposits and withdrawals remain suspended, with no restart date.
The exchange put the assets involved at about $38 million and said $11 million had been blocked. Other estimates range from more than $40 million to about $49 million. Mercado Bitcoin has not said whether its figure includes the blocked assets. Frozen tokens have not been returned to their owner, and the exchange’s promise to cover losses cannot be verified from outside.
