Brazil’s securities regulator, the CVM, is pushing for mandatory asset tokenization and AI-based surveillance to modernize oversight of the country’s fund market. CVM president Otto Lobo said existing supervision is overwhelmed; the source puts the market at $2.32 trillion across more than 34,000 active structures. The transition has not been presented as completed: Lobo said the CVM is testing three distributed-ledger technologies and assessing contract logic and cybersecurity risks before a wider rollout.
Lobo said smart contracts could apply anti-money-laundering checks at the asset level and that entry costs for money market funds could fall as low as $20. Separately, Brazil’s B3 stock exchange expects its tokenization platform to be ready by 2027.
