Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had asked for a plan to explore blockchain as one possible alternative to conventional banking channels if Israel faces banking sanctions. He did not name any cryptocurrencies or networks, identify which agencies would oversee a system, or say when one might be implemented. Exchange controls, limited liquidity, blockchain surveillance and restrictions on financial intermediaries could limit its use for transactions under sanctions.
Netanyahu also said Israel should prepare for an eventual end to U.S. military assistance. A cited database of measures targeting Israel includes proposals and institutional boycotts, not only financial sanctions.
