Ethereum developers postponed the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Hoodi testnet, originally scheduled for October 26, 2026, while they investigate security risks tied to proposed gas-rule changes. The Ethereum Foundation said the review concerns how the proposals interact with existing smart contracts. No new Hoodi date was given, leaving the mainnet schedule uncertain; developers had been considering early December, subject to successful Hoodi testing.
Security firm ChainSecurity warned that proposals EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 could weaken some contracts’ safeguards against insufficient gas griefing, potentially causing them to record failed operations permanently. It said not all gas-related checks would become unreliable, but developers would need to review them. ChainSecurity also said it had found 13 real-world examples, without disclosing details or naming affected projects.
