Ethereum core developers delayed the Glamsterdam upgrade’s Hoodi testnet fork until security concerns tied to eight smart contract invariants are resolved. The Ethereum Foundation said proposed changes to gas charges under EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 would invalidate assumptions used by some existing projects. An Oct. 13 report by auditor ChainSecurity found that the changes could break contracts that rely on fixed gas assumptions when external calls fail.
The foundation said the delay gives developers time to find potential contract issues and decide whether changes are needed before the upgrade moves toward mainnet. Glamsterdam went live on the Sepolia testnet on Oct. 6.
