Qubic restarts blockchain, opens post-hack recovery claims

Qubic restarted its blockchain at 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 19 and launched a recovery process after an attacker drained roughly $1.4 million in QU tokens from 1,404 accounts, according to the project. Its explorer shows the network resumed processing after a halt intended to prevent further movement of stolen funds. Qubic said its validators approved the recovery plan, but affected users must submit claims through its platform by May 1, 2027.

The flaw involved predictable wallet seeds generated by Qubic’s web wallet on certain Apple devices and browsers. Qubic said it fixed the flaw in web wallet version 4.26.4, released on Oct. 19. It warned users who created wallets with earlier versions to treat those wallets as insecure even if their funds were untouched, and to move their funds to a new wallet created with an updated version.
