Top Blockchain Token Standards Explained

Token standards, rules and protocols dictating how tokens function on a blockchain, differ across top blockchains like Ethereum, Solana, BNB, and XRP. Each blockchain has unique token standards to ensure interoperability, security, and efficiency within its ecosystem.

Ethereum boasts a range of standards such as ERC-20 for fungible tokens, ERC-721 for NFTs, and ERC-1155 for multi-tokens. Solana uses the SPL standard for both fungible and non-fungible tokens, ensuring low transaction costs and fast settlement times. BNB’s BEP-20 standard, compatible with Ethereum’s ERC-20, facilitates cross-chain interoperability. XRP Ledger’s XLS standards focus on fast, efficient cross-border payments.

Ethereum’s ERC-20 standard was the first to gain widespread adoption, setting a precedent for blockchain tokenization. Solana’s standout feature is its high-speed and low-cost transactions, essential for high-throughput applications. Compared to Ethereum’s higher costs and slower speeds, Solana, BNB, and XRP offer more efficient alternatives.

Each token standard plays a vital role in enabling the standardized, interoperable creation, management, and transfer of digital assets, ensuring long-term growth and adaptability within their respective ecosystems.
