Nigeria has launched an annual tech training program for 1,000 citizens, focusing on AI, blockchain, and advanced technologies. The initiative, announced by the Nigerian government, aims to position the country as a leader in the global tech industry.
In partnership with Gluwa, the program will equip participants with essential skills, supported by a grant of 150,000 naira for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to boost the fintech ecosystem.
Vice President Kashim Shettima highlighted the program’s goal to surpass global tech standards and integrate beneficiaries into the global workforce. In July 2024, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) also unveiled plans to establish AI, IoT, and blockchain research centers nationwide.
Currently, one in three Nigerians use cryptocurrencies, benefiting over 38 million unbanked individuals. Nigeria leads in global Bitcoin search queries, reflecting its rising digital currency engagement.
This strategic initiative is set to revolutionize Nigeria’s economic landscape, fostering innovation and supporting SMEs, and positioning the country as a key player in the global tech arena.
