Blockchain Adoption Surges in Philippines

Philippines Adopts Blockchain for Transparency After Protests

  • Integrity Chain, developed by BayaniChain, logs contracts and milestones as digital assets validated by independent civic groups.
  • The system was launched following protests on September 21, where around 130,000 people demanded accountability over $33 billion in alleged infrastructure corruption.
  • The platform runs on Polygon’s Proof-of-Stake network, an Ethereum-compatible scaling solution.
  • More than $33 billion was allocated to flood-control projects over the past fifteen years.
  • Over forty non-governmental organizations participated at launch to provide a diversified base of civic accountability.

The Philippines has implemented a blockchain-based system for its Department of Public Works and Highways to enhance transparency and accountability after mass protests against corruption in infrastructure projects. The Integrity Chain project aims to rebuild public trust using cryptography and open validation systems.

This initiative could protect the entire annual budget of the Philippines, estimated at roughly $98 billion, by ensuring government records are immutable and verifiable through independent validation processes. (Source)
