Ethereum Delays Glamsterdam Testnet Fork Over Gas Security Flaws

Ethereum developers postponed the planned Glamsterdam upgrade on the Hoodi test network on October 22, 2026, after auditor ChainSecurity flagged security risks in its gas changes. No new date has been set for the Hoodi upgrade. ChainSecurity said the changes could allow some smart contracts to record failed operations permanently when their code was designed to keep them retryable.

ChainSecurity said it had found 13 real-world examples and was contacting affected projects, while the Ethereum Foundation was assessing how many contracts were exposed. Ethereum researcher Christine Kim said Hoodi node operators should revert to software without the upgrade scheduled or wait for an updated release that cancels it. Glamsterdam had already activated on the separate Sepolia test network on October 6, 2026.
