Bank of Israel Rejects Netanyahu’s Crypto Sanction-Evasion Plan

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proposed using cryptocurrency as an alternative if Israel faces international economic and banking sanctions. The sanctions are hypothetical; he did not say a crypto-based system was in place.

The Bank of Israel urged leaders to preserve ties with major trade partners and focus on preventing sanctions, saying that responsibility rests with political leaders. Netanyahu said other tools could also help Israel maintain links to the global financial system if sanctions were imposed. Political rival Gadi Eisenkot called the crypto proposal a threat to national security and questioned how Israeli tech firms would receive overseas payments or investment.
