Green Oceans located a wreck near turbine No. 1 at the Block Island Wind Farm in July 2026 and documented it with a dive on August 30, 2026. The site is about 50 feet from the turbine. Survivor Tim Diaz identified a net drum there as belonging to the F/V Mistress, which sank on January 1, 2019, killing Captain Oscar Diaz and deckhand John Ansay Jr.
Green Oceans president Michael Lombardi said the wreck’s position raises a question about whether the crew turned to avoid the turbine; the source does not establish that such a turn occurred. Divers reported bone fragments they believed might be human and additional possible remains. A 43-page report dated September 5, 2026, was shared with the Coast Guard, the NTSB and family representatives.
