FactBlock’s Institutional Shift Takes Shape at KBW2026

FactBlock held the 2026 Korea Blockchain Week main conference in Seoul on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1, with a new invitation-only institutional summit on Sept. 29. FactBlock said 115 of the main conference’s 290 speakers, or 39.7%, represented finance, policy, digital asset investment and related services. The figures support organizer Park’s aim to increase institutional participation, but they do not show how much retail attendance changed; available attendance totals do not separate retail and institutional participants.

The conference also took place without the legislative progress Park had hoped for. On Sept. 30, lawmaker Min Byung-duk criticized delays to South Korea’s Digital Asset Basic Act. Virtual asset income tax remains scheduled to start on Jan. 1, 2027, although some lawmakers and industry representatives called for another postponement.
