Lloyds, Barclays lead UK crypto-user complaints

Stand With Crypto in the UK said 9,803 people filed more than 10,000 complaints between May and August 2026 about banks blocking or limiting transfers to U.K.-registered crypto asset platforms. Lloyds Banking Group received the most complaints, followed by Barclays and NatWest Group. The figures do not account for bank size or explain why individual transfers were blocked, and it is unclear how the complaints were resolved.

The group said banks variously ban crypto asset transfers, cap them or state no policy. It warned that published policies do not guarantee a transfer will go through because banks can still block or delay it. It urged banks to use case-by-case controls and called on regulators to clarify their obligations.
