Matthew McConaughey said on Daniel Lubetzky’s Build or Break podcast on October 13, 2026, that he spent two days in the West Texas desert reading a book of negative reviews from 20 years of his work. His team told Fortune the trip took place around 2018 or 2019, while he was working on his memoir “Greenlights.”
McConaughey said the exercise was hard. He dismissed criticism from people he believed simply disliked him, but said some critics who assessed his work had a point.
