Polymarket Flags Suspicious Midterm Election Bets

Polymarket has investigated dozens of election-related bets for potentially improper trading ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections, according to an NPR investigation published Oct. 27, 2026. A person familiar with the investigations said at least two cases were referred to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The referrals do not establish that wrongdoing occurred.

Polymarket monitors trading on both its identity-verified U.S. exchange and its larger international cryptocurrency platform, where traders can participate without publicly disclosing their identities. As of Oct. 27, 2026, its traders priced a Democratic sweep of Congress at 65%; its House and Senate control markets had recorded $24 million and $9 million in trading, respectively. Those prices reflect traders’ expectations, not election results.
