Study: Quantum Corrections Could Erase Black-Hole Singularities

Authors of a paper in Physics Letters B argue that adding an infinite series of quantum-gravity corrections to Einstein’s equations could replace the predicted infinite-density singularities inside black holes and at the Big Bang with finite, mathematically well-behaved regions. This is a theoretical proposal, not an observed result, and direct tests are impossible.

Researchers could instead look for subtle differences in gravitational-wave signals from black hole mergers using LIGO and future detectors. The source says such effects might be measurable, not that they have been found.
