Coinbase-backed Base is offering tokenized versions of shares in companies including Apple, Microsoft and Nvidia to eligible investors outside the U.S. These are blockchain-based representations of shares, and transfers, trading and use in other applications remain subject to eligibility restrictions. Base says Coinbase-issued stock tokens are backed by U.S. shares held with a regulated custodian.
Aave supports seven Coinbase tokenized U.S. stocks as collateral for borrowing USDC on Base. Blockworks data puts the broader tokenized-stock market at about $3.84 billion in distributed value, up nearly 18% over 30 days; the source reports 4.5 million holder addresses across public blockchains. Whether these stocks can sustain round-the-clock trading, lending and liquidity remains an open question.
