The Wall Street Journal reported on Nov. 6 that Sen. Elizabeth Warren is expected to lead the Senate Banking Committee after Democrats won both chambers in the Nov. 3, 2026, elections. The new Congress convenes in January, but committee assignments will not be finalized until afterward. Republicans still control both chambers during the lame-duck session.
Stifel said Warren could open targeted investigations into crypto firms. House Democratic staff are drafting a crypto market bill that would expand SEC oversight and give the CFTC a limited role; it is not an approved measure. Rep. Robert Garcia said House Oversight inquiries into Trump family deals could begin as early as February 2027. Republicans reportedly argue that Trump’s veto would limit Democrats’ ability to enact their bill.
