South Africa’s Absa Group has launched a digital-asset custody service after receiving regulatory approval. The rollout is limited to institutional clients, including asset managers, non-bank financial institutions and companies; retail customers are not included. The service supports storage and transfers of Bitcoin, Ether, USDC and assets on the XRP Ledger.
Absa says it plans to add assets but has given no timeline or list. It also expects to extend the service to other client groups in South Africa and is working to introduce it in other African markets, where each launch would require regulatory approval.
