Bitcoin mining giant Bitfarms has appointed Ben Gagnon as its new CEO amid a takeover battle with U.S. rival, Riot Platforms. Gagnon, previously the chief mining officer, will now focus on expanding and diversifying the business into new areas like energy generation and AI-driven high performance computing (HPC).
During his tenure, Gagnon played a key role in shaping Bitfarms’ growth plan, significantly positioning the company for value creation. Riot Platforms had been trying to acquire Bitfarms for $950 million but withdrew its proposal, citing difficulties in engaging with Bitfarms’ board.
This appointment emphasizes Bitfarms’ strategic pivot towards innovation and diversification in a competitive market. Long-term, Gagnon’s leadership aims to position Bitfarms as a trailblazer in sustainable and diversified crypto mining operations.
