Worldcoin ID Verification Launches in Austria

The Worldcoin Foundation has launched its ID verification technology in Austria, expanding its services within the EU. The announcement made on July 31 highlights that Worldcoin’s “orb” devices will be available at multiple locations in Vienna for individuals aged 18 and older.

Worldcoin’s proof of personhood system uses iris scanning to create unique biometric identifiers, rewarding participants with its native token, WLD. This expansion follows similar services in Germany.

Despite its growth, Worldcoin faces privacy concerns, with regions like Hong Kong, Portugal, and Spain imposing restrictions. Founded in 2019 by Sam Altman and others, Worldcoin secured $115 million in May 2023, led by Blockchain Capital.
