Crypto Platforms Lose $3.63 Billion Despite Security Audits

  • From January 2025 to July 2026, crypto platforms faced $3.63 billion in losses across 245 incidents.
  • The top ten attacks represented over 72.5% of the total stolen value.
  • 147 of the incidents involved audited protocols, accounting for approximately $3.22 billion in losses.
  • Infrastructure vulnerabilities led to over $1.8 billion in losses during this period.
  • Active coverage by crypto insurance platforms decreased by over $33 million, from $163.2 million to $130.2 million.

Despite undergoing independent security audits, many crypto platforms have been unable to prevent significant exploits and thefts. The report highlights that issues with infrastructure and supply chain vulnerabilities are primary contributors to these staggering losses, emphasizing the need for improved security measures within the DeFi sector.

The data reveals a critical vulnerability in even well-audited systems, as they accounted for a large majority of financial drainings over the past year and a half. This situation underscores the urgent need for enhanced security protocols across all platforms involved in cryptocurrency transactions.
