The French Senate adopted a bill in its first reading to let tax authorities automatically exchange crypto transaction data with foreign counterparts. It was sent to the National Assembly for consideration and is not yet law. The bill covers a crypto tax-information agreement based on the OECD’s Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework and an update to an existing agreement on financial account information.
France already requires crypto service providers to report customer identities and transactions under EU-related rules. Separately, the National Assembly adopted an amendment on Oct. 16 that would tax gains from conversions into certain fiat-pegged stablecoins from Jan. 1, 2027; that measure is also not law. Morpho public affairs head Faustine Fleuret warned that sharing and centralizing crypto tax data could pose security risks. The European Commission plans a central repository for crypto reports by the end of 2026.
