South Korean officials are reportedly discussing another delay to the country’s cryptocurrency tax, but no postponement has been announced. The National Tax Service still lists Jan. 1, 2027, as the start date. Newsis reported that the tax could be pushed to 2029, partly because officials do not expect to be able to share tax information on digital asset exchanges with the US before then.
The policy would impose a 22% tax on crypto gains for investors earning more than 2.5 million won ($1,883) a year. First proposed in 2020, it has already been delayed several times.
