The National Basketball Association named Kalshi and Polymarket its preferred prediction market exchanges and signed an information-sharing agreement with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. The exchanges will get official NBA data from Sportradar to settle authorized markets, along with rights to use NBA intellectual property and run promotions in the United States. The partnerships bar NBA and team personnel from trading NBA event contracts and require cooperation in investigations of suspicious trading.
The deals come amid an unresolved dispute over whether federal commodities rules override state gambling laws for sports prediction markets. Federal appeals courts have issued conflicting rulings involving Kalshi, and the Supreme Court has been asked to review the New Jersey dispute but has not agreed to hear it.
