Moscow Exchange plans cryptocurrency trading in December

Moscow Exchange plans to launch Bitcoin, Ether and Tether’s USDT trading on Dec. 1, in what it calls Russia’s first organized digital currency market. The exchange said pilot trades would begin as participants join, with same-day and next-day settlement and swaps initially available. Non-qualified investors must pass a test before buying crypto and may purchase no more than 300,000 rubles (about $3,700) a year per broker.

The law permitting regulated trading still bans cryptocurrency payments for goods and services in Russia. Moscow Exchange and its clearing center are under US sanctions; the exchange is also under UK and EU sanctions. Exved founder Sergey Mendeleev doubted the market would attract much demand and warned that wide gaps between buying and selling prices could make trading unattractive.
