Sun seeks $264K sanctions over UAE disclosure

Tron founder Justin Sun and two co-plaintiffs are seeking $263,821.20 in sanctions against World Liberty Financial and its lawyers. They allege that the company gave a misleading ownership disclosure in a federal court dispute over Sun’s $45 million WLFI token investment. World Liberty first listed Florida as its sole citizenship, then amended its disclosure nearly three months later to identify 22 individuals and entities in its ownership chain, including some in the United Arab Emirates.

World Liberty’s lawyers argue that its UAE citizenship means the federal court lacks jurisdiction because foreign parties are on both sides of the case. One of its lawyers said his team had recently learned of additional citizenship information, but maintained that the company had UAE citizenship when Sun sued. Sun’s lawyers say the company provided limited ownership records and did not explain the original omission. The sanctions request covers four attorneys’ fees for opposing arbitration, but excludes other lawyers’ fees and costs tied to jurisdictional discovery and the sanctions motion; a hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.
