The Ukrainian National Securities and Stock Market Commission (NSSMC) and the Ministry of Digital Transformation are actively discussing progress on cryptocurrency asset legislation. These two agencies are developing distinct proposals with divergent regulatory approaches.
Yuriy Boyko from NSSMC dismisses merging the proposals, stressing different regulatory philosophies. The NSSMC aims to align with MiCA regulations, while the Ministry’s proposal, per Boyko, offers only a superficial update to the 2022 law. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged Ukraine to update its crypto regulations by the end of 2024.
Alexander Bornyakov from the Ministry of Digital Transformation highlights their focus on consumer protection. Their proposal sets requirements for public offers of virtual assets, aiming to safeguard consumer rights and reduce investment risks.
The ongoing discussions reflect Ukraine’s effort to balance regulation and market growth in the crypto sector. The outcome of these legislative efforts could shape the long-term growth and stability of Ukraine’s virtual asset market.
