IBM Launches Most Powerful Quantum Computer

IBM, the University of Chicago and the Illinois state government unveiled IBM Quantum System Two in Chicago on Nov. 6, 2026. IBM’s first quantum computer in Illinois is initially housed at Hyde Park Labs. It is expected to anchor the National Quantum Algorithms Center after moving to the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park, once construction there is complete.

The system uses IBM’s Quantum Nighthawk chip. IBM says the Chicago installation should make advanced computing capacity easier for local researchers and companies to access.
