Google revised its privacy policy, effective Oct. 16, to allow content from Gmail, Drive and Google Photos to help personalize ads when users choose to make that data available to other Google services that support personalized ads. The change applies to users who connect those apps to AI features such as AI Mode and Gemini; the content is not used for ad targeting by default.
Google says advertisers cannot see the underlying content and it will not share personally identifying details without permission. Users can disconnect the apps in their Google Account’s Connected Content apps settings or turn off personalized recommendations. Android Authority noted that data collected earlier may remain in Search history after an app is disconnected.
