Stablecoins Expand Circle Targets 40 Markets

Circle Expands USDC Reach to Emerging Markets

  • Circle plans to enter approximately 40 emerging and developing countries, according to CEO Jeremy Allaire.
  • USDC holds about 25% of the stablecoin market, while Tether’s USDT holds roughly 60%.
  • USDC’s circulation increased by 19% year over year, reaching $73.3 billion in the second quarter.
  • Circle acquired payments firm Tazapay for $400 million and received a $100 million investment from Binance.
  • The GENIUS Act, a U.S. stablecoin law set to take effect in January, is seen as a significant regulatory development by Allaire.

Circle aims to increase the global presence of its stablecoin USDC by expanding into new markets across Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. This move aligns with the growing demand for digital currencies in these regions as blockchain technology enters its mainstream scaling phase.

With USDC’s market share at around a quarter compared to Tether’s dominance, Circle’s strategic expansions and investments aim to boost its competitive edge globally.(Source)
