Survey: More Americans Tried Crypto, Few Stick

An Ipsos survey for the DeFi Education Fund found that 22% of U.S. adults said they had ever owned or used crypto, up from 18% in 2025. But past-year use held at 13%, and the increase in lifetime use came almost entirely from people who had not used crypto in the past year. The survey polled 1,545 adults from Sept. 8 to 16; the source does not give the year. Its margin of error was plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.

Only 19% said the financial system is secure, and 63% said it needs an upgrade to combat threats such as cybercrime and AI. That concern did not translate into trust in crypto: 4% reported high trust in crypto exchanges. Only 2% were very familiar with decentralized finance, though 40% said they would be at least somewhat likely to try it if available.
