Binance found additional breach points beyond an initially suspected engineer laptop while investigating a $6.3 billion hack, co-CEO Richard Teng said. He said the attack involved more than one person, bypassed normal approval controls for a hot wallet and used a mechanism that destroyed tools and traces. The investigation has not attributed responsibility to any individual, and Teng reported no evidence of a private key leak.
Teng said Binance had paused withdrawals to rebuild and test the service, and would not restart them until it passed rigorous testing. He hoped withdrawals could resume within 40 hours, but that depended on the testing. Teng pledged company funds to cover all losses and said more than $6.34 billion had been reserved for that purpose, though some replacement token purchases were still under way.
