Agencies Probe Binance Hack; Circle Freezes $823M

Binance is working with the FBI and U.S. Secret Service after hackers stole about $6.4 billion from the exchange, according to Reuters. The FBI confirmed it was assessing the incident with partners; the Secret Service did not comment. TRM Labs and Chainalysis attributed the theft to TraderTraitor, a group linked to North Korea.

Circle said it froze more than $800 million in USDC tied to the attack. Tether also froze USDT, but the excerpt gives conflicting amounts. Binance said it would cover all losses and had located or frozen about $3 billion with partners’ help. Withdrawals remained suspended during a security review, with Binance targeting a resumption by Sunday.
