Binance confirmed a security breach with an estimated $6.3 billion impact. Its initial investigation points to a possible compromise of an employee laptop that allowed unauthorized withdrawals. An analyst linked the attack to a North Korea-linked group, but Binance did not identify the attacker.
Binance said partners froze roughly $3 billion of the stolen funds. It pledged to cover remaining customer losses using its user protection fund and corporate reserves, while deposits and withdrawals remain suspended for security checks. Bitcoin fell to $76,320, and crypto liquidations topped $1.54 billion, with long positions accounting for just over 80%.
