Thorchain halted Ethereum processing after an Ethereum block reorganization led it to refund 10 ETH that its vault had never received. Trading and new swaps then stopped across 12 of its 13 supported external networks, though some outbound payments already in progress continued. Technical accounts attributed the error to Thorchain’s deposit checks, and the source reported no evidence of malicious intent. Service began returning chain by chain after several hours.
Chainalysis said the pause temporarily blocked ordinary users and suspected North Korean money launderers from most Thorchain cross-chain swaps; it was not a targeted freeze. Separately, the FBI issued an Oct. 31 alert urging Thorchain node operators and other providers to block transactions tied to wallets connected to the Binance theft. The request was voluntary, not a court order, and the source did not establish that operators complied.
