Binance Completes Initial Investigation Into $6.3B Hack

Binance said in an October 30 announcement that its initial investigation found a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop let an attacker submit unauthorized crypto withdrawals. It estimated the impact at about $6.3 billion, with $3 billion frozen on-chain. Binance said it had found no evidence that wallet private keys leaked, but that its investigation and verification were not complete.

Binance said it would cover all losses with its SAFU fund and company funds. The report says Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals, but a service update dated October 30, 2026, said deposits were operating normally and withdrawals were expected to resume within 48 hours.
