CoinStats Incident Report: $2.2M Security Breach

CoinStats, a top cryptocurrency portfolio tracking app, revealed a major security breach on June 22, 2024, resulting in the theft of $2.2 million in digital assets. The company published a detailed incident report on July 12, providing insights into the breach.

The attackers, likely a sophisticated nation-state group, accessed private keys and transferred funds from 1,590 CoinStats wallets. CoinStats CEO Narek Gevorgyan stated that vulnerabilities across multiple services were exploited, but no user data beyond financial losses was compromised.

CoinStats resumed full operations on July 3 after enhancing security protocols and conducting infrastructure audits. They recommend users update passwords and enable two-factor authentication.

CoinStats will maintain transparency and provide regular updates during the investigation. Users can report losses and seek assistance by Aug. 15. This breach underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures in the cryptocurrency sector.
