Phantom Wallet Scam Drains Crypto Assets

A fake Phantom wallet on Apple’s app store is draining user funds when they recover their accounts using private keys. The fraudulent app mimics the original Phantom wallet and appears as an ad before the legitimate app.

Published by Meta Voxify, the fake app is categorized as educational, unlike the original utility app. Users have reported losing funds after loading their wallets into this fake app.

Despite its removal from the app store, it still shows up when searching for “Meta Voxify” or “Voxify ai.” This isn’t the first such incident; a similar clone of Rabby Wallet appeared last year.

Scammers are increasingly targeting smartphone users, with a 2023 Sophos report noting that they evade app store security using valid certificates. The long-term importance lies in improving app store security to protect users from such scams.
