Phishing Scam Costs MakerDAO Delegate $11M

A MakerDAO governance delegate lost $11 million in aEthMKR and Pendle USDe tokens in a phishing scam. The incident occurred when the user signed multiple fraudulent Permit network signatures.

Scam Sniffer, a web3 anti-scam solution, detected the breach and reported it on X. The victim’s wallet was compromised by a scammer, highlighting the vulnerability of key crypto figures. Colin Wu revealed that the victim was a MakerDAO delegate, playing a crucial role in the governance of the Maker protocol.

Phishing scams, where attackers steal sensitive information by masquerading as legitimate entities, have drained $300 million from 320,000 users in 2023 alone. The largest single loss reported was $24.05 million due to malicious transactions.

This incident emphasizes the need for vigilance in the crypto community. Users must verify the authenticity of entities they interact with to protect their assets from phishing attacks.
