Pseudonymous crypto trader GCR (Gigantic Rebirth) revealed that his X account was hacked on May 26, 2024, through a bribe, leading to a pump-and-dump scheme involving ORDI and LUNA2 tokens. The hackers used the compromised account to promote these tokens, causing ORDI’s price to briefly spike before crashing.
GCR alerted his followers via an alternate X account, indicating that two months prior, he was warned by a Twitter affiliate about potential bribes for account access. Despite increasing security, the breach occurred due to alleged internal bribery at X.
Notably, blockchain investigator ZachXBT suggested that the hacker’s identity might be discovered soon, as they poorly laundered their funds through centralized exchanges. Reports indicate the hacker opened large positions on these exchanges before the hack, potentially exposing their identity.
This incident underscores the critical need for robust internal security protocols within social media platforms to prevent such breaches.
