Crypto’s Biggest Hack Hits Binance; Estimated $6.3B

Binance said it suffered a large-scale hack overnight on Oct. 30, 2026, with preliminary losses estimated at $6.3 billion. TRM Labs estimated that attackers took about $6.36 billion across 10 blockchains, which it described as the largest hack in crypto history. Binance temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals and said it would cover financial losses through its SAFU insurance fund and company funds, but the final amount of unrecovered assets was unknown.

Chainalysis said it had a high degree of confidence that North Korean hackers were responsible; Binance said the cause was still under investigation. Binance’s preliminary inquiry suggested a compromised employee laptop may have enabled unauthorized withdrawals, but it found no evidence that wallet private keys had leaked. Onchain analyst ZachXBT estimated that more than $2.83 billion in stolen assets had been frozen.
