The FBI attributed the October 29 theft of more than $6 billion in crypto assets from Binance to North Korea’s TraderTraitor cyber operation. The source does not state the year of the theft. U.S. agencies said the stolen assets were being converted mostly into Ethereum and that the perpetrators may move them through DeFi services and instant swap platforms for further laundering.
The FBI published Ethereum addresses it assessed were controlled by or closely associated with the operators, and agencies urged crypto providers to block transactions linked to those addresses. Binance set aside more than $6.3 billion to cover losses from the hack.
